Woods might still be around had he not made birdie, but Weir's eagle clearly kept him in the hunt after a couple of rough holes dropped him from the lead.
"That was big," Weir said after his lob wedge found the bottom of the hole from 25 yards out. The shot got him back to 10-under, and a late birdie put him into a tie with Tiger.
A few minutes before Weir's eagle, Woods tried to go for the green in two. His errant 2-iron found the right bunker. But he had a good lie and blasted to within two inches for a gimme 4.
For the record, the 14th on Medinah No. 3 hasnt shown much teeth this week. It ranks 16th toughest at 4.920, giving up three eagles and 86 birdies during the opening 54 holes.
