ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Brian Moehler allowed two runs and four hits in six innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5-2 Friday.

Moehler, who will start the first-ever game at Detroit's Comerica Park on April 11, struck out three and walked one. The right-hander gave up three runs over 12 innings in his last two starts.

Juan Gonzalez returned to Detroit's lineup as the designated hitter after missing Thursday's game with a sore right hamstring and went 1-for-4. The possibility exists Gonzalez might DH when the Tigers open the regular season Monday at Oakland.

``We'll let him DH tomorrow and see where we are,'' Tigers Phil Garner said.

Herbert Perry, who may replace the injured Vinny Castilla as the Devil Rays starting third baseman, hit his eighth homer of the spring.

Tampa Bay starter Esteban Yan departed after two innings with a right forearm bruise after being struck by Juan Encarnacion's liner. The right-hander allowed three runs and six hits.

``It's muscle, so there's no bone involved,'' Tampa Bay manager Larry Rothschild said. ``It got a little puffed up after getting hit. He should be OK, but we'll see.''

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Deivi Cruz, Shane Halter and Gregg Jefferies.

Jose Canseco's run-scoring single in the third inning and Perry's fourth-inning solo homer got the Devil Rays within 3-2.

Detroit got one run back in the sixth on Halter's squeeze bunt and Richard Gomez added a ninth-inning RBI single.

Notes: Tampa Bay placed LHP Wilson Alvarez (shoulder) and RHP Damian Rolls (shoulder) on the disabled list. ... The Devil Rays released LHP Norm Charlton from his Triple-A contract.
