OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Orlando Hernandez didn't look happy. He
had to feel better than the Oakland Athletics, though.
Clay Bellinger hit his first two career triples and drove in
three runs to help Hernandez win his second straight start as the
New York Yankees defeated the A's 10-6 on Saturday.

"I'm not obligated to be happy," Hernandez said through an
interpreter. "But I'm pleased because we won."
Hernandez (10-10), who had lost four straight decisions before
winning his last two, struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings.
He gave up three runs, five hits and three walks. He threw a
season-high 134 pitches.
"I've just prepared myself for this," Hernandez said. "I'm
healthy now. I'll be OK."
Mark Mulder (7-10) allowed six runs and 10 hits in two-plus
innings, his shortest outing of the year. He walked one and struck
out one as he lost for the eighth time in 10 decisions since June 30.
"I just made bad pitches all day," Mulder said. "I'm the one
who made the mistakes, and they took advantage of me."
Bernie Williams, who missed the previous seven games with a
strained right rib cage, singled in the first inning to score Derek
Jeter. Tino Martinez added a two-run single in the inning.
"It was nice having Bernie out there," Yankees' manager Joe
Torre said. "He was sort of a stabilizing force for us. He held
things together."
Luis Sojo had an RBI single in the second and Jose Canseco hit his 12th homer leading off the third. It was the 443rd homer of his
career, which moves him into sole possession of 23rd place on the career list.
"It's tough to come back when you fall so far behind," A's
Jason Giambi said. "You have to play through it."
Jorge Posada doubled home Martinez to make it 6-0 and end
Mulder's day.
"We gave up too many runs too early," A's manager Art Howe
said. "They jumped on us. (Mulder) didn't make good pitches."
Bellinger tripled home two runs and Jeter added a sacrifice fly in the fifth against reliever Omar Olivares. Bellinger was also credited with a triple when Terrence Long lost his fly ball in the sun in the seventh, scoring Scott Brosius.
"One was a 'gimme', but I'll take them all," said Bellinger,
who appeared in his 69th game. "It's important for Bernie and Paul
(O'Neill) to be out there playing and healthy. I'm just trying to
take advantage of my situation. We have guys who can come in and
fill a role. That's the sign of a good team."
Eric Chavez hit his 19th homer, a two-run shot off Hernandez in
the third, and Frank Menechino hit a three-run homer in the ninth
off Mike Stanton.
Mariano Rivera got one out for his 28th save in 33 chances.
Game notes
The Yankees are 33-19 since July 1, the best record in the
AL. ... Williams snapped an 0-for-12 streak with his first-inning
single. ... The A's lead the majors with 117 errors. ... Mulder is
the first A's rookie to lose 10 games in a season since Chris
Codiroli went 12-12 and Tim Conroy was 7-10 in 1983. ... A's LHP
Mike Magnante has allowed one run in his last 15 appearances (10
2-3 innings) ... Long, who had his first career four hit game,
leads all rookies in runs scored (80). ... Canseco, who spent parts
of nine seasons with the A's, has hit 122 homers in the Oakland
Coliseum, his most at any ballpark. ... Giambi, Mike Stanley,and
Matt Stairs are a combined 1-for-33 lifetime against Hernandez.
