Giambi is AL MVP

The first half of the 2002 MLB season is in the books and ESPN.com asked users to look at the season so far and select their midseason favorites for MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year.

The results are in and our first poll in this year's midseason Fan Favorites was AL MVP. The voting couldn't have been closer but the Yankees Jeremy Giambi narrowly beats out Nomar and Paul Konerko for the award.

Check out the candidates below, what we had to say about each player and the ESPN.com poll results.

ESPN.com POLL

Nomar Garciaparra, Red Sox
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
10 60 .318 50 .361 .533
Appears to have fully returned from last season's wrist injury and that is only good news for the Red Sox.

Jason Giambi, Yankees
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
21 64 .316 53 .434 .599
Scared Yankees by starting out slowly but is coming on strong and is nearing last year's pace.

Paul Konerko, White Sox
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
20 70 .336 46 .380 .583
One of the best hitters in the game and keeping the team in the race.

Torii Hunter, Twins
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
18 56 .306 53 .350 .559
Maybe the most underrated player in the league and makes this team go.

Alex Rodriguez, Rangers
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
24 65 .302 63 .401 .593
Continues to put up huge numbers, but for what? His team still stinks.

Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners
HR RBI AVG Runs OBP SLG
2 28 .364 64 .436 .471
Back to back MVPs? Doing everything he did last year and without as much help.
