The Giants better hurry if they want to keep manager Dusty Baker.

According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday, Baker said he will "eagerly" talk with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry if San Francisco doesn't offer him a new deal before his contract ends Wednesday.

''At that point, if I'm offered something or it's something that's not pleasing to me, I'm free to talk to anybody and I will see what interest is out there," Baker told the newspaper. "Then we will see what's shaking.''

While attending the Notre Dame-Boston College game with his father Saturday, Baker said he hasn't been offered anything to return to the Giants and is still waiting for team owner Peter Magowan to make a bid.

Baker didn't seem to mind either way about the lack of action.

''There was a time when I was disappointed, but then you get past the disappointment. And then you realize, that's how it is,'' he told the Sun-Times. According to the report, Baker plans to return to the Bay Area on Monday to meet with Giants GM Brian Sabean on Tuesday. Baker told ESPN Radio in Chicago on Saturday that he'll talk to Hendry regardless of what happens Tuesday with the Giants. ''Well, I think so,'' Baker said during the radio interview. ''I think when you go this far and this deep, you're always curious what's out there and how you're (perceived). When you're at a place a long time, sometimes people tend to take you for granted.''

The three-time manager of the year is reportedly seeking $5 million a year, an amount San Francisco said it won't pay.

''You've got to put everything into the equation, then come up with positives and negatives,'' Baker told the newspaper. ''Money's important to everybody, but it's not everything. I'm gonna get money. If you win, then the money will follow.''
