GAME FLOW
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Although it was not vintage Chris
Webber, the Sacramento Kings weren't complaining Tuesday night.Returning from a 10-game absence, Webber scored 19 points and
grabbed 13 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Toronto
Raptors 98-91. A sprained ankle suffered Feb. 13 had sidelined Webber, who
looked tentative in the opening half, then had 13 points and 8
rebounds to help rally the Kings in the second half.
The All-Star forward made just 7-of-22 shots, had five fouls and
did not block a shot.
"I felt good, I was just glad to be back out there, doing
something positive," said Webber, who averages over 27 points and
11 rebounds per game.
The Kings, who had a 10-6 record in Webber's absence, survived a
first-half stretch that saw them miss 21 of 23 shots in running
their home record to a league-best 24-5. Sacramento made 31-of-46
free throws, offsetting a 35 percent shooting night.
"When you take that many points and rebounds out of our lineup,
it's tough," Kings guard Doug Christie said. "It was great to see
No. 4 (Webber) down on the block again. That was big for us."
Vince Carter and Antonio Davis both scored 25 points for the
Raptors, who had their season-high five-game winning streak
snapped. Alvin Williams added 17 points.
The Raptors' previous loss was a thrilling, triple-overtime loss
to the Kings in Toronto. This one lacked any major drama as the
Kings rallied from a 44-38 first-half deficit to beat the Raptors
for the third straight time.
"The little things hurt us, they took advantage of all our
little mistakes," Davis said. "They get the crowd going, and when
that happens, things happen in the game."
Christie made two free throws and followed with a basket inside
as Sacramento went on an 8-2 run to open the fourth quarter to
build an 81-70 lead. Christie's 3-pointer with 1:41 remaining put
the Kings ahead 93-87 with 1:41 left.
Despite making just 2-of-12 field-goal attempts, Christie
finished with 19 points, six assists and four steals.
"It wasn't like we got blown out, we were in a position to
win," Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens said. "Now we have to refocus
and get ready for the next game."
Jason Williams made four 3-pointers and scored 13 of his 19
points in the second half. Vlade Divac added 17 points and 17
rebounds.
Williams made a 3-pointer from the corner, igniting a late 10-0
run for the Kings, who outscored Toronto 35-24 in the third quarter
to take the lead for the first time since midway through the
opening period.
Christie scored 10 third-quarter points and Webber finally got
going, scoring eight points as the Kings took a 73-68 lead into the
fourth quarter.
"Jason got us going in the third quarter, pushing the ball and
we started making shots," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We woke
up in the third quarter and started to get aggressive. That's a
pretty good team we beat."
Davis was one of the few players shooting well in poorly played
first half, scoring 18 points to help the Raptors assume a 44-38
lead.
