BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Indiana has never lost a game in the
Indiana Classic. The Hoosiers (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP) had never won one they
way they did Friday night.
A.J. Guyton had 22 points and Indiana cruised to a 106-55
victory over Buffalo in the first round of the 26th annual Indiana
Classic, a tournament the Hoosiers now have a 51-0 record in.
The margin of victory was Indiana's biggest in the annual
tournament, breaking the previous mark of 47, set against Central
Michigan in 1991.
"It was really good the kind of play that we had throughout the
whole ball game, particularly throughout the second half," Indiana
coach Bob Knight said. "We didn't have any letup in the second
half."
The Hoosiers (6-0) will face the North Texas-Indiana State
winner in Saturday's championship game.
Kirk Haston added 15 points for the Hoosiers and Jeffery Newton
had a career-high 14.
Indiana outscored Buffalo 29-10 over the final 14 minutes of the
first half and took a 43-26 halftime lead, then opened the second
half with a 19-2 run.
"They did a real nice job of moving the ball quickly," Buffalo
interim coach Reggie Witherspoon said. "There wasn't a lot of
wasted dribbles. They didn't give us time to be able to make calls
and to be able to talk our players through our defensive system."
Witherspoon, a former community college coach, is now 0-2 at
Buffalo. The Bulls led No. 7 North Carolina by five points at
halftime Tuesday night before falling 91-68.
"When they slap Indiana and North Carolina on you
back-to-back," Witherspoon said, "it's hard to remember what you
would have been doing."
Alexei Vasiliev had 13 points and Louis Campbell added 11 for
Buffalo (2-5).
The Hoosiers trailed Buffalo 16-14 early in the game, until
Michael Lewis scored eight points and Guyton had nine consecutive
points in a 19-0 run.
The Bulls went more than nine minutes without scoring until
Campbell hit his first of three 3-pointers. By that time Indiana
led 39-22.
