EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Amp Campbell and Michigan State fared much better against Oregon this time around.

Campbell returned a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter as Michigan State rebounded from a humiliating loss to Oregon last season and rallied for a 27-20 victory in the season opener for both teams.

Oregon had built a 17-7 advantage 5 1/2 minutes into the third quarter when quarterback A.J. Feeley hit Tony Hartley with an 18-yard touchdown pass.

But Paul Edinger kicked a 22-yard field goal and quarterback Bill Burke hooked up with Gari Scott on a 12-yard TD pass to pull the Spartans even entering the fourth.

The Ducks were driving for the go-ahead score when running back Herman Ho-Ching fumbled. Campbell, a senior cornerback, scooped up the ball and returned it 85 yards, putting the Spartans ahead for good just 52 seconds into the quarter.

Oregon got within four on Nathan Villegas' 43-yard field goal with 10:27 left. But Edinger answered with a 30-yard field goal of his own just over five minutes later to seal the win.

The game marked the amazing return of Campbell, who suffered a broken neck in last season's 48-14 embarrassing defeat at Oregon.

Feeley, who is taking over for the departed Akili Smith, had an impressive debut, completing 27-of-49 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Reuben Droughns, a potential Heisman candidate, was held to just 59 yards on 23 carries.

Burke was 18-of-31 for 205 yards, including a 14-yard TD pass to Scott in the first quarter. Lloyd Clemons paced the ground attack, carrying 18 times for 121 yards.
