BOX SCORE
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) _ Jimmy Lee rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Dayton beat Drake 20-14, keeping the defending Pioneer Football League champions winless in the conference and ending the Bulldogs' hopes for a repeat. David George scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run with 2:57 left in the third quarter. Lee's second touchdown, a 22-yard run halfway through the second quarter, gave Dayton (4-3 overall, 3-0 PFL) a 14-7 halftime lead. Lee had scored on a 48-yard run in the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Ira Vandever, making his second start, had a hand in both touchdowns for Drake (4-3, 0-2). He connected with Vince Giovannetti on a 20-yard pass in the second quarter and scored on a 1-yard keeper in the third. Vandever completed seven of 17 passes for 79 yards and was intercepted twice. Dayton rolled up 348 of its 400 offensive yards on the ground. Quarterback Pat McLaughlin added 97 yards rushing and was 5-of-8 for 52 yards passing. Since the five-team PFL formed in 1993, Dayton or Drake has either won or shared every championship. Valparaiso (5-1, 2-0) is still unbeaten in the league this season and plays at Dayton Oct. 30.
