NORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ Norfolk State's two-point conversion to win the game in the final minute fell short and Hampton held on to win Saturday 28-27. Hampton (5-2, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 21-0 lead late in the second quarter, but a five-yard run by Norfolk State (1-5, 0-5) quarterback Maurice Selby with 39 seconds left in the game made it 28-27. Selby missed his pass on the two-point conversion. The Pirates outgained Norfolk State 421-309, but were hampered by penalties and turnovers. Hampton was penalized 10 times for 97 yards, and Marcus Grey returned an interception 79 yards for a fourth-quarter Spartan touchdown. Selby completed just 10 of 34 passes but threw for two touchdowns and 204 yards. Hampton, ranked 22nd in the I-AA poll, snapped a two-game losing streak.
