BOX SCORE
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Edward Mack rushed for 108 yards and scored twice and Charles Lee added two touchdown receptions as Central Florida defeated Nicholls State 28-0 Saturday night. Most of the game was played in a steady rain, the remnants of Hurricane Irene, which earlier in the day left the state heading north up the East Coast. Central Florida (2-4) limited Nicholls State (1-5) to 198 yards of offense to post its first shutout of the season. The Golden Knights allowed Nicholls State to convert just two of 14 third-down attempts. Mack gave Central Florida a 21-0 lead when he scored on a 12-yard run with 2:48 remaining in the third quarter. He also had the first 100-yard rushing effort in the school's last 12 games. Lee had five catches for 76 yards. After a scoreless first quarter, Mack gave Central Florida a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard run with 4:58 remaining before the half. Quarterback Victor Penn helped set up the score with a 37-yard rush on a second-and-15 play that moved the ball to Nicholls State's 5-yard line. Penn completed 14 of 35 passes for 204 yards. He also had 43 yards rushing on 10 attempts. Nicholls State's Brad Smith hit 10-of-20 for 49 yards. He was sacked six times.
