BOX SCORE
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- San Diego State turned a snowy trip to Colorado into a day at the beach. Larry Ned and Jonas Lewis combined for 138 yards rushing, and Damon Gourdine caught a long touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as San Diego State beat Colorado State 17-10 on a frigid day in Fort Collins. Snow fell throughout the first half and the temperature dipped to 33 degrees, but San Diego State (3-4, 1-2 Mountain West Conference) adapted well to the weather and avoided its first 0-3 conference start since 1994. Dallas Davis had nine catches for 125 yards for Colorado State (3-3, 0-2), which drove to the San Diego State 18 in the final minute. The comeback attempt ended when Matt Newton threw four straight incomplete passes. After trailing 10-3 at halftime, Colorado State tied the game on Kevin McDougal's 4-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. The teams traded punts before Gourdine got behind Colorado State cornerback Ameer Lowe for a 40-yard TD with 11:05 remaining. The catch capped an 83-yard drive. The Aztecs finished with 202 total yards. Rico Curtis intercepted a pass by Newton on Colorado State's next possession, but the Aztecs missed a chance to increase the lead when a high snap led to an aborted 22-yard field goal attempt with 8:03 left. The failed attempt marked the first time in 21 trips inside the 20 that San Diego State has not scored this season. The Aztecs prevailed, however, after losing their first two conference games by a combined four points. Colorado State controlled the ball for much of the first half but trailed 10-3 after a botched field goal and a turnover in the final seconds before halftime. Ned gave San Diego State the lead on a 5-yard touchdown run with 59 seconds left in the half, and Nate Tandberg kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired after Newton fumbled a snap with five seconds remaining. | ALSO SEE College Football Scoreboard San Diego State Clubhouse Colorado State Clubhouse Top 25 overview
