HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Wes Pate passed for 345 yards and Karon Coleman rushed for 216 more, enabling Stephen F. Austin to come back from an early 14-0 deficit and defeat Sam Houston State 45-31.

After Stephen F. Austin (4-2, 3-0 Southland Football League) was held scoreless in the first quarter, the momentum began to sway in the Lumberjacks' direction when Pate threw a 54-yard scoring pass to Coleman with 7:25 left in the half. A 4-yard run by Coleman and a 39-yard field goal by Ted Woodard gave SFA the lead at halftime.

Coleman had third-quarter scoring runs of 65 and 63 yards to pad the lead over Sam Houston State (3-3, 1-1), which received a huge passing effort from Chris Chaloupka. Chaloupka completed 32 of 50 passes for 479 yards and a touchdown, although he threw three interceptions.

Chaloupka's backup, Jermaine Henderson, threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Matt Dominguez to pull Sam Houston State within 30-28 with 5:58 remaining in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Bearkats got.

Pate completed 14 of 25 passes with three touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards after having two interceptions returned for scores in the first quarter. Chris Foster and James Burnett picked off the passes and returned them 35 and 58 yards, respectively.
