BOX SCORE
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) _ Brock Nutter accounted for two touchdowns and Troy State overcame an abysmal 214-yard offensive effort as the Trojans beat Southwest Texas State 24-17 on Saturday. Troy State (6-0, 2-0 Southland Conference) never trailed in the game, but the Trojans needed a 1-yard run by Nutter to break a 17-17 tie with 4:35 remaining to ice the victory. That game-winning play was set up by a Southwest Texas State fumble on its own 20-yard line. The Trojans had taken an early 10-0 lead on an 8-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Rayshun Reed and a 48-yard field goal by Lawrence Tynes in the first half, but Southwest Texas State (2-4, 1-2) refused to let things get out of hand. The Bobcats held Troy State to just 70 rushing yards while sacking Nutter five times. The only Troy State play of longer than 20 yards was a 59-yard touchdown pass from Nutter to Mareno Philyaw in the third quarter. Nutter completed 12 of 18 passes for 144 yards, including six passes for 107 yards to Philyaw. Spergon Wynn led the Southwest Texas State attack with 226 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-39 passing, while Bronson Sanders had 20 carries for 120 yards.
