BOX SCORE
BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) _ Giovanni Carmazzi threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns as Hofstra took a 21-9 victory over Elon Saturday. Each team compiled 267 yards of offense, but five Elon turnovers proved to be the key difference. Carmazzi's 35-yard pass to Steve Jackson opened the day's scoring. The two connected on a 5-yard scoring pass in the third quarter to make it 14-3 for Hofstra (7-1). Steven Ferguson's plunge from a yard out capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive for Elon (6-2) that made it 14-9 early in the fourth quarter. Elon's next two drives stalled on interceptions. On the second, Doug Shanahan picked off Derrick Moore with 3:49 left and the Flying Dutchmen went to work from the Elon 25 yard line. Hofstra's Jimmy Jones covered the yardage on three rushes, including the touchdown from a yard out to put the game out of reach with 2:30 left. Carmazzi completed 11 of 23 passes and was intercepted once. Jones carried 18 times and gained 95 yards for Hofstra.
