FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ Jim Lopusznick threw for 186 yards and one touchdown, leading Fairfield University to a 24-16 win over St. John's University Saturday. The Stags (6-1) scored the game's first points in the opening quarter as Detrick Watson bounced off the right side for a seven-yard touchdown run. St. John's cut into the lead on its next possession, capping a four-minute drive with quarterback Steve Kalberer's 39-yard touchdown pas to James Morton. A mishandled snap on the extra point attempt let Fairfield keep the lead at 7-6. St. John's held Fairfield on the Stag's next possession and took over the ball at its own 49-yard line. Elliott Hulse scored the touchdown on a two-yard drive with 9:20 left in the first half. The Red Storm lined up to try for a two-point conversion, but a penalty pushed St. John's back to the seven-yard line and forced it to take the one point, making the score 13-7. The Stags regained the lead for good when Cowley caught Lopusznick's two-yard pass with two minutes remaining.
