MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Jay Taylor's 32-yard field goal with six seconds left Saturday lifted West Virginia to a 20-17 victory over Temple.

West Virginia (3-4, 2-1 Big East) kept alive its slim bowl hopes but must play Miami and Virginia Tech over the next two weeks.

Temple (1-6, 1-2) lost to the Mountaineers for the ninth straight time.

Temple managed just three first downs in the second half, but two came on a 66-yard drive in the fourth quarter.

Greg Muckerson caught an underthrown pass from Devin Scott for a 47-yard play to the West Virginia 13, setting up Cap Poklemba's 22-yard field goal to tie the game at 17-17 with 8:32 left.

West Virginia fumbled away the ensuing kickoff but the defense held and the offense got the ball back at its 15 with 5:01 left.

The Mountaineers embarked on a 14-play drive. Redshirt freshman Avon Cobourne ran for 20 of his 127 yards and tight end Anthony Becht caught a 19-yard pass on third down to keep the series alive.

The snap on Taylor's winning kick nearly went over the head of holder Zach Anglin, who was able to get the ball down in time on the wet turf.

West Virginia's special teams helped bail out its offense before halftime for the second straight week.

Gary Thompkins blocked a punt at the Temple 12 to set up Cobourne's 2-yard TD run and Nate Terry ran back a kickoff 81 yards for a score just before halftime for a 17-14 lead.

West Virginia's Marc Bulger, returning from a two-game layoff after breaking a finger on his throwing hand, went 16-of-29 for 266 yards. He threw two interceptions and was sacked four times.

Scott was 24-of-47 for 297 yards. He threw for two first-half touchdowns and had two passes intercepted.
