BOX SCORE
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) _ Tommy Crenshaw passed for 304 yards and two touchdowns and Kyle Brandt ran for two more to lead Princeton to a 44-15 win over Columbia on Saturday in the battle to avoid last place in the Ivy League. Crenshaw completed 24 of 33 passes in becoming the first Tiger since 1991 to pass for at least 300 yards in a game. Both the sophomore's touchdown passes came in a 24-point second quarter that put Princeton (3-4, 1-3) in command. The first was a 33-yarder to Chisom Opara that opened the scoring and the second covered 35 yards to Marty Cheatham. Brandt also scored on a 54-yard run in the quarter, while Taylor Northrup added a 39-yard field goal as Princeton kept Columbia (2-5, 0-4) winless in the league. The pass from Crenshaw to Opara with 10:55 to go in the quarter capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive. On the second play of Princeton's next possession, Brandt circled the right side and scored from 54 yards out for a 14-0 lead. Brandt also helped set up the touchdown pass to Cheatham by returning a punt out of the Columbia end zone 18 yards to the Lions' 35. Crenshaw followed with his second touchdown pass for a 21-0 lead. Northrop stretched the margin to 24-0 with his field goal. Columbia finally got on the scoreboard with a little trickery in the third quarter. After intercepting a pass to get possession, quarterback Jeff McCall hit Jonathan Reese for a 50-yar touchdown scoring pass on a fake punt. The Tigers answered back with an 18-play, 85-yard drive that Brandt capped from a yard out with 2:08 left in the quarter. McCall hit wide receiver Armand Dawkins with a 21-yard touchdown pass and the Lions added a 2-point conversion just before the end of the quarter to close the gap to 31-15. However, Princeton put the game out of reach with two fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 1:24 span. Freshman tailback Cameron Atkinson scored on a 4-yard run with 7:44 to go and defensive back Kevin Kongslie intercepted a Mike Glynn pass and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown with 6:20 to go. The last Princeton quarterback to threw for over 300 yards was Chad Roghair, who passed for 401 yards against Brown in 1991.
