CHENEY, Wash. (AP) _ Jovan Griffith's 5-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds left propelled the Eastern Washington University Eagles to a 26-21 win over the Sacramento State Hornets Saturday at Woodward Stadium. Eastern improved to 5-4 overall, 4-2 in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento State dropped to 4-5, 2-5 in conference play. Griffith's key touchdown capped an eight-play, 46-yard drive in which he accounted for all the yards. Griffith finished with 214 yards on 37 carries, the tenth-best rushing performance in school history. Down 14-7 at the end of the third quarter, Eastern got the wind at its back in the fourth quarter. Jesse Chatman's 14-yard yard run tied the game at 14, just over two minutes into the final quarter. That capped a 12-play, 95-yard drive. Sacramento immediately answered with a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ricky Ray to receiver Scott Towne. But the Eastern defense clamped down and two field goals by Troy Griggs cut the Hornets' lead to 21-20 before Eastern's winning drive.
