BOX SCORE
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) _ Keith Toolan threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns Saturday as Central Connecticut held on for a 28-21 Northeast Conference victory over Monmouth. The score was 14-all when the Blue Devils (4-6, 3-4 NEC) took the lead for good as Toolan found Darryl Taylor with a 29-yard TD pass with 14:01 remaining. Then, with 8:42 on the clock, he threw a five-yard scoring strike to Anthony Liquore. Monmouth (2-8, 2-5) pulled to within a touchdown on Matt Merklinger's one-yard run with 6:11 remaining but it proved to be the last score of the game. Toolan also made it to the end zone on a seven-yard scramble in the second quarter. Mark Strasser led the Blue Devils' ground game with 113 yards on 21 carries but also fumbled on the Monmouth 38 with 1:21 remaining, giving the visitors one more chance. Chris Wielgoz then threw three straight incompletions before Manny Goncalves picked off his fourth down desperation pass to end the Hawks' threat.
