Saturday, October 14 Moore named nation's top defenderAssociated Press | |||
| CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Virginia Tech defensive end Corey Moore, who set a Big East record with 17 sacks this season, was awarded the 1999 Mike Fox-Bronco Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top defender.
The award was presented Monday night by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Football Writers Association of America.
Moore was chosen over four other finalists -- Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington, Penn State defensive end Courtney Brown, Minnesota strong safety Tyrone Carter and Florida State nose guard Corey Simon. Moore led a defense that ranked in the top 10 nationally in every category. He finished the regular season with 59 tackles, and his sacks resulted in 146 yards in losses. The undefeated and second-ranked Hokies will play Florida State for the national title in the Sugar Bowl. The Mike Fox-Bronco Nagurski Award has been given annually by the FWAA since 1993. | ALSO SEE
