UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) -- Free safety Clinton Tabb returned a fumble 95 yards for one touchdown and returned an interception 43 yards for another as Rowan defeated Montclair 42-13 in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals Saturday. In avenging a loss to Montclair (9-2) in the regular-season finale that cost it a New Jersey Athletic Conference title, Rowan (11-1) will make its fifth straight trip to the national semifinals next Saturday. The Profs will travel to three-time defending national champion Mount Union in a rematch of last year's Stagg Bowl, which Mount Union won 44-24. Rowan will meet Mount Union for the third time in four years and fourth time overall, having also lost to the Purple Raiders in the Stagg Bowl in 1992 and 1996. Rowan, which forced eight turnovers for the second straight week, took a 7-0 lead on its first possession of the game when Mike Warker found Bobby Woolfolk with a 4-yard touchdown pass to cap a 12-play drive. Late in the first quarter Montclair drove to the Rowan 3-yard line but came up empty when Brett Grablachoff's 20-yard field goal attempt was blocked. On Montclair's next scoring threat, a third-and-goal from the 5-yard line resulted in a fumbled snap that Tabb recovered and returned for a touchdown to make it 14-0 with 4:54 left in the half. Tabb stopped the Red Hawks' last scoring attempt of the half by intercepting a pass for the sixth straight game. The Profs increased their lead to 21-0 on Jason Frabasile's 8-yard run early in the third quarter. Montclair scored the first points on Rowan in seven quarters when Ron Lewis tallied on a 1-yard run late in the quarter. Lewis' TD set the school record with 17 in a season. Tabb then sealed the victory early in the fourth quarter when his eighth interception in six games was returned for a score to make it 28-7. David Sadowski caught a late touchdown pass and Leroy Thompson completed the scoring when he recovered a fumbled Montclair snap in the end zone.
