PHILADELPHIA -- George Washington (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, unranked AP) advanced to the Atlantic 10 tournament championship game for the sixth time in nine seasons as Petra Dubovcova scored 20 points in a 66-55 triumph over Massachusetts.
George Washington (25-4), which won the title in 1992, 1995 and
1996, is in the championship game for the first time since 1997
and will face Xavier on Monday.
Elisa Aguilar and Kristeena Alexander added 10 points apiece as
the Colonials overcame 35 percent shooting (17-of-48) for their
fifth straight win.
George Washington connected on 43 percent (9-of-21) of its shots
in the second half and held Massachusetts to 29 percent
(11-of-38), including 2-of-11 from 3-point range.
Tonia Thomas scored 12 points and Jennifer Butler grabbed 11
rebounds for the Minutewomen (14-15), who shot 30 percent
(19-of-63) and had a three-game winning streak stopped.
