CANCUN, Mexico (AP) -- Katie Douglas scored 18 points and led
four players in double figures Saturday as No. 4 Purdue beat
Montana State 86-61 at the Torneo Cancun de Basquetbol at
Kuchil-Baxal Arena.
The Boilermakers will face South Carolina on Sunday.
Mary Jo Noon scored a career-high 14 points for the Boilmakers,
while Kelly Komara and Camille Cooper each added 12 points.
Noon said the team has been having a good time in Cancun, but
that the players aren't letting that distract them.
"You have to be able to play wherever you go," said Noon, who
had seven rebounds. "That's the key to everything."
Purdue outscored Montana State 30-14 in the final 13:39 of the
first half for a 47-29 advantage.
Douglas shot 10-for-10 from the line and had 14 points at the
break. Noon added 10 points.
Purdue forced 30 turnovers and collected 12 steals, including
four by Shalicia Hurns. Hurns finished with a team-high nine
rebounds.
"I was pleased with our effort," Purdue coach Kristy Curry
said. "I was very pleased with our leadership. I heard several
things on and off the floor that were very good."
Douglas said the Boilermakers' press made some improvements
against the Bobcats.
"We had a lot of intensity and I think the press really wore on
them," Curry said. "We're going to use that to our advantage
throughout the year. Our press was very effective."
Amy Meckling led Montana State with 23 points.
