SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Jackie Stiles scored 39 points as Southwest Missouri State beat Iowa 101-87 on Thursday night.
Iowa (4-4), which made nine 3-pointers, stayed with the Bears (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP) through much of the game, which had 11 ties and 12 lead
changes.
The Hawkeyes, led by Lindsey Meder with 28 points, had a 71-63
lead with 11:26 left before Southwest Missouri (5-2) went on a 12-6
run to narrow the margin to 77-75 with 8:07 left.
Stiles, who scored 27 points in the second half, tied it at 77
with 7:56 left and sparked Southwest Missouri to a 17-4 run that
gave the Lady Bears a 92-81 lead that the Hawkeyes couldn't
overcome.
Stiles is 564 points shy of the NCAA Division I scoring record
of 3,122 set by Mississippi Valley's Patricia Hoskins in 1989. She
was 13-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range,
and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Stephanie Busbey scored 18 and Tara Mitchem added 15 for
Southwest Missouri, which went into halftime tied at 40-40.
Cara Consuegra added 17 and Leah Magner had 15 for the Hawkeyes.
