The Lady Braves earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament with a surprisingly easy 83-58 victory over Grambling State -- the highest scoring team in the country -- in the SWAC tournament championship game. Tourney MVP Cherea Wood has led Alcorn State all season, scoring at least 20 points -- including a 34-point performance -- in 12 regular-season games. She had 14 points and 18 rebounds in the SWAC title game. Defense also has come up big for Alcorn State; Grambling was the tourney's top seed and had been averaging 89.4 points a game, but in the SWAC final, the Braves' held the Tigers to 31 points below their average and to their lowest point total of the season.
