| OUTLOOK| | Marquette Golden Eagles RECORD: 22-7 COACH: Terri Mitchell | SEASON RESULTS
 |
First round: Lost to Western Kentucky, 68-65
After stealing away the regular-season Conference USA title from favored Tulane, and breaking into the top 25 in mid-February for the first time in the program's history, the Golden Eagles enter the Big Dance on a two-game losing streak, their first of the season. After wrapping up the regular season with an 89-71 loss to DePaul, top-seeded Marquette was upset 71-61 by eighth-seeded UAB in the C-USA quarterfinals. Still, with senior center Abbie Willenborg, the school's all-time leading scorer (1,808 points) and rebounder (1,159 boards), and forward Lisa Oldenburg on board, Marquette is a good dark-horse candidate. And as C-USA Coach of the Year Terri Mitchell put it, "After the last two games, we've got something to prove. The hunger and desire to end this season on a successful note is there; now we've got to go out and execute."
