Koivu might return faster than three months

MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu and
defenseman Sheldon Souray had surgeries on Tuesday.

Koivu had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee,
injured during a game against the New York Rangers on Oct. 11.
"The knee is a lot more stable than before and (Koivu) should
return to full strength," Canadiens team doctor David Mulder said.
"Saku will begin a rigorous rehab stint that he almost knows by
heart now."
Koivu might return before the three-month rehab period that was
originally anticipated.
Souray had surgery to repair a muscle tear in his abdomen.
"(The tear) was in the area we least expected it," Mulder
said, adding that he has seen only two other NHL players with a
similar injury.
Souray should be skating in four weeks, but is not expected to
return to the lineup for 8-10 weeks.
