Monday, September 4 Pre-Olympic tour ends with 60-0 record
Associated Press
HONOLULU -- The U.S. Olympic team set a national softball
record with 107 consecutive victories Sunday by shutting out the
Women's Pro Softball League All-Stars, 1-0 and 10-0.
The streak started at the 1998 World Championships.
The victories concluded Team USA's pre-Olympic "Central Park to
Sydney Tour," in which it finished 60-0.
In the first game, Lori Harrigan struck out 12 and gave four
hits and Sheila Douty provided the only run with a homer in the
second inning.
Harrigan did not allow a runner past second base and recorded
only one groundout.
In the second game, Christa Williams pitched a two-hitter and
Crystl Bustos, Stacey Nuveman and Jennifer Brundage homered in a
game called in the sixth because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Bustos also drove in two more runs with a two-run single in the
sixth.
Team USA opens the Olympics on Sept. 16 against Canada.
