Aussie pair win first Slam title

NEW YORK -- Todd Woodbridge and Rennae Stubbs outlasted Leander Paes and Lisa Raymond in a super tiebreaker to win the U.S. Open mixed doubles title Thursday.

The top-seeded Australians claimed their first Grand Slam title together 6-4, 5-7, 11-9. It's the first time a first-to-10 tiebreaker has been used in lieu of a third set in mixed doubles at the Open.

Wimbledon champions Paes, of India, and Raymond, of the United States, were seeded second.

Woodbridge and Stubbs lost in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the second round at the French Open in 2001.

Stubbs and Raymond won the women's doubles title at Wimbledon and will face Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva in the U.S. Open semifinals Friday.
