 CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Dawn Staley and Charlotte Smith hit key 3-pointers late in the game as the Charlotte Sting beat the Portland Fire 73-64 on Friday night. Smith, who finished with 12 points, hit a 3-pointer with 4:18 remaining to give Charlotte (5-17) a 57-52 lead. Staley, who led Charlotte with 18 points, made a 3-pointer from the corner with 2:07 left to put the Sting ahead 61-54. Portland's Sophia Witherspoon scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half. The Fire (7-15) were 9-for-25 from the field in the first half and 24-for-63 overall. Andrea Stinson added 16 points for Charlotte, and Rhonda Mapp had 13.
