CARNOUSTIE, Scotland -- Bill Glasson became the latest American to withdraw from the British Open on Wednesday, citing a recurring elbow injury.

Glasson has been replaced by Briton Scott Watson, the first reserve from qualifying at Montrose.

The withdrawal of Glasson, 27th in the World Rankings, follows those of Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, John Daly, Steve Jones and Scott Hoch.

Glasson has played in only two British Opens despite turning professional in 1983. He missed the cut in 1990 and tied for 24th in 1995. The winner of seven PGA Tour titles, Glasson's best finish in a major was a tie for fourth in the 1995 U.S. Open.
