| Keith Stokes returned a punt for a touchdown midway through the first quarter, giving the Pirates a two-TD lead. Things were bad, but manageable, for Texas Tech until that point. Trailing 7-0, the Red Raiders were forced to punt, and by the time Stokes had rumbled 71 yards, the rout was on.

Keith Stokes had six catches to go with a punt return for a TD.
They promised offense in bunches, then took turns providing bunches of offense. East Carolina scored the first 34 points, then coasted to a 40-27 victory over Texas Tech in the first-ever Galleryfurniture.com Bowl. The Pirates got 92 rushing yards and a pair of 1-yard TDs from Leonard Henry, 251 passing yards from David Garrard and a 71-yard punt return for a score from Keith Stokes. Kliff Kingsbury led the Red Raiders' comeback attempt with four touchdown passes.
