SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Vincent Damphousse's shorthanded goal with just under two minutes left in the second period lifted the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. After Jeremy Roenick opened the scoring 3:18 into the contest, Marco Sturm and Ron Stern scored 85 seconds apart midway through the period. Damphousse extended the lead to 3-1 with his third goal of the preseason. Damphousse has five points in three game for the Sharks (1-0-2) while Stern and Sturm each recorded their first goals of the exhibition slate. Steve Shields started for San Jose and stopped 11-of-12 shots. Mike Vernon came on midway through the second and turned aside 8-of-9 attempts. Travis Hansen had a power-play goal 10:33 into the third period to shave the deficit to a goal but the Coyotes were unable to solve Vernon the rest of the way.
