Dingman's 2 goals help sink former team

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- Chris Dingman showed the Calgary Flames that he is far more than a role player.

"It's amazing what you can do when you get a little confidence," the former Calgary forward said after scoring two in Colorado's 5-2 victory over the Flames on Saturday night.

"The coach (Bob Hartley) has given me a lot of ice time, he's put me on the second-line power-play. The big key is playing with confidence."

Dingman has a career-high four goals this season, including goals in his last three games. As a rookie in 1997-98 with Calgary, he scored three times in 70 games.

Dave Reid, Milan Hejduk and Chris Drury also scored for Colorado, and Sandis Ozolinsh had three assists.

Valeri Bure and Phil Housley scored for Calgary.

Denis's best save came in the third period as Calgary threatened to tie the game.

With Colorado leading 3-2, Calgary's Steve Dubinsky blocked Ozolinsh's shot from the point and went in on a breakaway, only to be stopped on a pad save by Marc Denis.

Ozolinsh picked up the rebound and worked the puck up ice, where Drury scored to put Colorado ahead 4-2.

"I tried to go five-hole (between the goalie's legs) but he covered it up pretty well," Dubinsky said. "I tried to chip the rebound in front, but Billy couldn't get a stick on it."

"It was an interesting situation," said Denis, who made 30 saves. "It was a two-on-zero and you have to respect the shot, the pass, the deke ... a little bit of everything. In that situation it's pretty much a guessing game."

Colorado went 3-for-4 on the power play.

The game was delayed for 31 minutes after Flames defenseman Derek Morris shattered a pane of glass behind the Avalanche net with a slap shot eight seconds into the second period.

The teams returned to their dressing rooms during the delay as Saddledome workers cleaned up the glass, put in a new pane, and resurfaced the Colorado end of the ice.
