Defense was the key

It was a enjoyable 28-13 victory and the win improved us to 3-1 for the year. We are also getting very close to breaking into the Top 25. We played very well on defense and played a key role in the win.

In the first quarter Idaho moved the ball on us a little bit, but we held them to only three points. In the second quarter we went on a 28-0 scoring run. It started with a blocked field goal, which then ignited the defense for the rest of the half. We then had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt over the next few minutes. We went into the half with a 28-3 lead.

In the second half we didn't score any more points, but our defense was strong enough to hold onto the lead. We came up with another interception and some key fourth down stops.

Idaho was a very good team. It was good for us to get a solid win even though we didn't play the best that we could. This week we must step up and play more to our potential, for it is our second conference game. We need to come out and play a great game to continue our win streak, and stay on top of the conference.

It was yet another great day for football at the War as Idaho came into town for a non-conference matchup. Idaho came in at 2-1 with victories over Washington State and E. Washington. We knew going into the game that we would be playing a good team and that the offense would have to finish it's drives.

The offense did just that, as the defense came out and made some huge plays early, giving us some excellent early opportunities. After getting the ball inside their 20 yard line three times, we capitalized and scored touchdowns on all three drives, which was huge for our offense. We went into halftime with a 28-3 lead and felt pretty good. We knew at the half that the game was far from being over, because Idaho was known for coming back.

Unfortunately, the offense came out in the second half and didn't get things going. But, with the help of the defense, the 28 points we scored in the first half were enough to win the game.

Another big game this week, homecoming, as we go back into conference play with the UNLV Rebels coming to town.
