(Editor's note: Miami wide receiver André King, a junior, will file a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season. For more on Miami, visit the Hurricanes' official athletic site.) Oct. 11, 1999 (11 a.m. ET) I think when we went up to Tallahassee, a lot of the guys were more prepared for the FSU game than any other game so far this year. We wanted to go up there and not beat ourselves, and we did a good job at that. We felt that if we had a chance to win the game we wanted them to beat us and in doing that it kept the game close (Miami lost to Florida State 31-21).
The mood of the team still seems upbeat. This week it's all Temple. The Owls are a very dangerous team. They beat an undefeated team in Boston College and not even a year ago they beat Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., so we're looking forward to a great contest. We're all looking toward the Big East Conference -- that's what we have left to play for -- our pride and our conference. As for me personally it's a very busy week. I already had one class this morning. Since we were out of town, my wife Jessica took my dog, Penny, a little mini-pincher, to my mother-in-law's house, so I get to pick up our dog. Today's my day off from practice so I get to take care of some housekeeping things, run to the store, do some food shopping, go to the mall and get my wedding ring looked at because I accidently bent it. You get to do all the little things you can't do the rest of the week ... plus I have three tests this week. I am majoring in business management with 15 credits this term. That keeps me pretty busy. Usually guys take 12 credits but I'm pushing myself to graduate in December of 2000, a full semester early so in the spring semester I can start graduate classes. Of course, the team will be coming back on Tuesday and prepare for Temple in full pads and just get to know Temple as much as we can before we play on Saturday. We're at the point where we can't look past anyone. Teams are out to beat us and going after Miami because they are trying to get revenge from us winning previous years. Other teams are hungry. We just have to be hungrier. It will be nice to go back to the Orange Bowl and play. We need all the support we can get -- we're definitely trying to put on a good show for all who come out to see us on Saturday. |
