BOX SCORE
MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Craig Darby's goal with 10:41 left in the third period lifted the Montreal Canadiens into a 2-2 tie with the Boston Bruins in the exhibition finale for both teams. Patrick Poulin's shot was stopped by rookie goaltender John Grahame, but Darby swept in the rebound for his third preseason goal. Jeff Hackett stopped all 13 shots over the final 45 minutes for Montreal after allowing first-period goals to Cameron Mann and Joe Thornton. Martin Rucinsky got the Canadiens on the board late in the opening period with his seventh preseason goal. He scored only 17 goals in 73 games last season. Grahame, battling Kay Whitmore for the backup role until Byron Dafoe ends his holdout, made 27 saves for Boston. The Bruins were 5-1-3 in exhibition play. Montreal, which was 2-4-3 in the preseason, played without injured regulars Benoit Brunet, Patrice Brisebois, Vladimir Malakhov, Jim Cummins and Dainius Zubrus.
