PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Deron Quint's power-play goal with seven minutes remaining snapped a tie and lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks in the preseason finale for both teams. Quint was cutting in from the right faceoff circle when he took a pass from Keith Tkachuk and fired a shot over the right shoulder of Mike Vernon. Dallas Drake tied the game for the Coyotes at 5:02 of the third period when his wrister from the slot beat Vernon over the right shoulder. Jeff Friesen had a goal and an assist and Vincent Damphousse added two assists for the Sharks, who suffered their first loss in exhibition play and finished with a 4-1-3 record. Rookie Mika Alatalo also scored for Phoenix, which peppered Vernon with 41 shots, including 17 in the third period. Phoenix finished the preseason with a 2-4-2 record. The game was viewed by 16,210 elementary school students and teachers in the Phoenix area, who were given free tickets by the team.
